Sonia Klumpp is 25 years old and grew up in Fairfield, Connecticut.  She graduated from McGill University’s School of Environment in 2005 with a B.A. in Environment & Development and a minor in Socio-Cultural Anthropology.  Sonia has traveled extensively in North America, Latin America, Europe, East Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.  During her third year at McGill Sonia spent a semester in Kenya and Uganda with Canadian Field Studies in Africa (CFSIA).  She was exposed to a wide range of geographic, ecological, cultural, social, and economic factors that both contribute to and perpetuate the gap between the “haves” and “have nots”.  While this experience gave Sonia insight into the broader framework of community development, she is excited to return to Uganda to gain experience with TRC at the grassroots level.  Ultimately, Sonia hopes to pursue a career in international development with a focus on global health.

Pauls Grinvalds, 25 years old, is from Burlington, Ontario.  He is a McGill University Alum ’06 with a B.Sc in Biology.  After completing his Bachelor’s degree, Pauls ran his own window washing company and earned enough money to backpack around the world.  His curiosity for other cultures led him on an eight-month journey to many countries including: Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Venezuela, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.  Upon returning from his travels, Pauls held a contract position with UNICEF Canada.  These combined experiences reinforced his belief that people from all walks of life should have access to basic human needs.  His decision to work for Tekera Resource Center (TRC) in Uganda is a stepping stone to gain experience in the field of international development and aid projects.
